“We wanted to ensure that all the interior spaces maintained a connection with the landscape and, in particular, with the river running beneath the site.”

Norman Foster

The Retreat was the first project that Team 4 built as well as the first one of Norman Foster. This small contemporary hut exposes the initial ideas of Foster’s work as well as the influence of two of his masters: Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies Van der Rohe. Both its position and shape is based on the conditions of the landscape. The house faces the river and at the same time is hidden on the earth. The house mixes traditional materials with the origins of high-tech.  The hut lies down with a concrete shell and it is open towards the sky and the river with a glass structure. This small and simple project can summarize many of the aspects that Norman Foster would develop during next decades.
