The terrorist attack of the Twin Towers turned the initial symbolism of these skyscrapers into a mysticism that remains in our memories. The terrible images of September 11, 2001 as well as the successive analysis of its structural collapse and downfall have generated an unusual interest regarding the structural system of the World Trade Center among public opinion. The documentary Leaning Out by the directors Basia and Leonard Myszynski analyzes the structure of this project through Leslie Robertson, the chief structural engineer of the towers.
The documentary combines a detailed and accurate analysis of the structural system of the twin towers in relation to other previous and subsequent Leslie Robertson projects such as the IBM offices in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong or the Kio Towers in Madrid. The most interesting structural moment of these towers was the connection between the beams of the slabs with the structural facade by pieces that allowed some movement to the slabs and avoided the vibrations in the higher floors. These pieces prevented the towers to initially fall and provoked their collapse was vertical. The density of the façade, which functions as a structural wall due to the number of columns allowed, once the aircraft impacted it, its structural loads were distributed and allowed to stand for a longer period of time.

The directors Basia and Leonard Myszynski also dedicated a part of the documentary to his partner and wife Saw Teen See trying to blur the preconceived idea of solitary genius that worked without any external input.
Finally, it is important to stand out the interview of Philippe Petit, the high-wire artist that mythologized even more the  towers when crossed them on a cable. His performance standed out the formal power of these skyscrapers as well as the spatial tension of the void between them, an fundamental aspect of its symbolism.
