This project is the result of collaboration between Salamanca City Council and the Directorate General of Architecture and Housing of the Ministry of Public Works and Town Planning, with the criterion that an action in the historic centre of the city should not only solve the urban problem of filling a site with a building, which currently breaks the continuity of the construction in such a characteristic place in Salamanca as the Patio Chico, but at the same time, by assigning it a housing use, contribute to avoiding the current desertification that the exclusive existence of public buildings produces in the historic centres.
EI presente proyecto surge como resultado de una colaboración entre el Ayuntamiento de Salamanca y la Dirección General de Arquitectura y Vivienda del Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Urbanismo; con el criterio de que una actuación en el centro histórico de la ciudad no resuelva únicamente el problema urbano de colmatar con una edificación un solar, que actualmente rompe la continuidad de la construcción en un lugar tan caracterizado de Salamanca como es el Patio Chico, sino que, al mismo tiempo, al asignarle un uso de vivienda, contribuya a evitar la actual desertización que la existencia exclusiva de edificios públicos produce en los centros históricos.
The project envisages the construction of rented housing for municipal employees, including flats and 2 and 3-bedroom dwellings, with the programme and sizing conforming to I.P.P.V. regulations for subsidised housing, as they will be built under an agreement with this body.
El proyecto prevé la cons- trucción de viviendas en alquiler para empleados municipales, incluyendo apartamentos y viviendas de 2 y 3 dormitorios, ajustándose en su programa y dimensionamiento a la normativa del I.P.P.V. para viviendas de protección oficial ya que se construirán por convenio con este organismo.
The proposal is structured in two differentiated buildings, one built by a linear block that accentuates the perspective of access to the cathedral through the door of the Crucero, next to the tower of the Gallo, and that is resolved trying to preserve the character of the buildings in the area, where the opening of serial holes and the massive presence of the stone wall forms an architecture that can be understood as a background that values the cathedral.
La propuesta se estructura en dos edificaciones diferenciadas, una construida por un bloque lineal que acentúa la perspectiva de acceso a la catedral por la puerta del Crucero, junto a la torre del Gallo, y que se resuelve intentando conservar el carácter de los edificios de la zona, donde la apertura de huecos seriados y la presencia masiva del muro de piedra conforma una arquitectura que se pueda entender como fondo que valore la catedral.
The plot at the back extends to the wall, joining with the garden of Calixtus and Melibea, forming part of the cornice of the city. This is what led us to situate the rest of the dwellings in the background in a fragmented way that would avoid the presence of an excessively continuous and homogeneous building from a distant perspective and at the same time resolve the passage to the garden of the Wazir, which was another of the basic conditioning factors of the project.
El solar en su parte posterior se extiende hasta la muralla, uniéndose con el jardín de Calixto y Melibea, formando parte de la cornisa de la ciudad. Esto es lo que nos lleva a situar en un segundo plano el resto de las viviendas de una forma fragmentada que pueda evitar la presencia de una edificación excesivamente continua y homogénea desde una perspectiva lejana y al mismo tiempo resuelva el paso al jardín del Visir que fue otro de los condicionantes básicos del proyecto.
