The building, designed by the American architect Abraham as part of the IBA, closes a 27-meter-wide gap between two historic buildings, thus restoring the historic streetscape. The attractively structured façade lends the building its distinctive character and simultaneously mediates horizontally and vertically between the different alignments and eaves lines of the neighboring buildings. The rear facade is semicircular, and the courtyard is designed in a circular pattern. Commercial space is located on the ground and first floors of the masonry and concrete building. The five floors above each house four three-room apartments of approximately 80 m², subsidized as part of the social housing program. These apartments are accessed via a spacious staircase. They face either west toward Friedrichstrasse or east toward the quiet, leafy courtyard. The apartments feature unconventional floor plans. Part of the roof is designed as a sun terrace.
El edificio, diseñado por el arquitecto estadounidense Abraham como parte de la IBA, cierra un hueco de 27 metros de ancho entre dos edificios históricos, restaurando así el paisaje urbano histórico. La fachada, de estructura atractiva, confiere al edificio su carácter distintivo y, al mismo tiempo, media horizontal y verticalmente entre las diferentes alineaciones y líneas de aleros de los edificios vecinos. La fachada trasera es semicircular y el patio está diseñado en forma circular. El espacio comercial se encuentra en la planta baja y en la primera planta del edificio de mampostería y hormigón. Las cinco plantas superiores albergan cuatro apartamentos de tres habitaciones de aproximadamente 80 m², subvencionados como parte del programa de vivienda social. Se accede a estos apartamentos a través de una amplia escalera. Están orientados al oeste, hacia la Friedrichstrasse, o al este, hacia el tranquilo y frondoso patio. Los apartamentos presentan distribuciones poco convencionales. Parte del tejado está diseñado como terraza solárium.
