“This is a single space of 8 meters height without walls or windows. It is limited
by four concrete walls that connect both floors and it lights up by four
skylights in the courtyard plus another one in the small lobby above the
staircase.
We
have a beautiful overhead natural light and a perfect almost constant
temperature between 20º and 25º C. There are two meters of soil above the roof
plus five double skylights (2 x 2 meters each x 5 skylight = 20 sqm.) that isolate
the space from extreme temperatures and save more than the 65% of  energy.
 Disfruta

This
house was created 30 years ago and we decided to refurbish a secondary
basement: “Lola Botia” for my personal studio of architecture. It
does not have windows and we do not miss them because, instead, we have a great
space without walls but with great overhead light. Similar to most of my
housing projects, there is a horizontal line that goes through all the
perimeter of the house at a height of 2.10 meters above floor and on top of
every door and window that we use to storage books, sculptures, etc-
I
heard that Lola is the first Loft underground that was projected in Madrid. For
me, it has a defect, we like it so much that we barely go outside.
Lola
A mi juicio
fuera.”
