Since Stonehenge, megalithic structures, assemblies of large parts by means of links or dry joints, have been a constant element in the art of constructing. This fact, in the epic constructions of the past, should be understood not only as tentative progressions but also as predictions for the future. Today, the opportunity to use mobile hoisting systems of great capacity, different anchorages for each different job and light fixing tools has contributed to make possible an architecture that satisfies desires inhereted from antiquity and enhances de dignity of the constructor of an architectural work whose reason for being consists in search for absolute realism in architecture, in the belief that it is the sole origin of all lyricism and every poetic position.
The act of construction does not provide form simply by adding work to something previosuly thought out; on the contrary, the act of construction is, from the first movement in the quarry, a configurative force tha combats the erosion of nature and time, and the end for the building’s usefulness to shape the definitive work. In the case of the house under construction in Puerta de Hierro (Madrid), the stone elements of up to three tons in weight and of the maximum dimensions allowed by the present-day art of granite cutting are anchored to walls by means of HME/HKD anchoring, in thick structural concrete and HT in light concrete for heat and acoustic insulated walls. The only tool used was a TE52 hammer.
