“The monument has been opposed to environment; the monument besides is historically determined, and also has analyzable own features. We can on the other hand propose to build monuments; but as noted above, we need architecture to achieve it. That is style. The reduction of urban problems to their physichal reality can not happen by other means. Only the existance of an original architectural style can allow free decissions: from these the city grows up. Architecture unfolds itself here as a technique. Atmosphere is simply what is constructed by architecture. The individuality of a work grows together with the idea of locus, and its history presupposes also the presence of an architectural fact. I strongly believe, therefore, the main point of an architectural fact lies in its technique, in the autonomous principles on whiche it is founded and transmitted.”
