The American System-Built Houses for The Richards Company were low cost housing designed by Frank Lloyd Wright during the 1910s. There were standardized projects (although they were not prefabricated because all the elements were built on the construction site) and the client had the possibility to choose between seven elements of different housing. Most of the housing were built in the historical district of Chicago, Wisconsin and Milwaukee. The drawings exposed here were given to the potential buyers of the houses and were used to choose between the different typology studies. The aesthetic of the drawings are based on woodblock Japanese prints and they reflect the interest of the architect on the Japanese Art and Illustration.
